Johnson C Smith remains unbeaten after thrilling win over Virginia State in HBCU clash

The Johnson C. Smith University Golden Bulls’ historic season continued Saturday, as they moved to 6-0 for the first time since 1969 following a 21-17 win over the Virginia State Trojans.

“I can’t put it into perspective,” JCSU head coach Maurice Flowers said when asked about what it means to be 6-0. “I feel like I’m still in coach mode, so it’s hard to try and put it in perspective. I will say I am happy to be undefeated in the CIAA, and I’m excited we’re at the bye week so that we can get some guys healthy, and so that we can clean some things up.”

The Golden Bulls and Trojans were locked in a largely defensive battle to start the game. The teams exchanged punts for most of the first quarter, with neither building much momentum. Both sides also turned the ball over, with JCSU losing the ball on a fumble on its opening drive.
