PETERSBURG — Gratitude is my word of the day. On September 18, I attended a school board meeting where the Board of the Petersburg City Public Schools presented me with the gift of pride, a Virginia School Boards Association [VSBA] 2024 Media Honor Roll certificate and a Petersburg City Public Schools resolution.
Twelve days earlier, I received an invite to be recognized in person. On the days leading up to the special moment, I had more pep in my step. Kudos are rare these days. My heart embraced the praise and honor.
I arrived early and chatted with LaVerle Talley, Lending Helping Hands founder and executive director. Those in attendance waited patiently for the work session meeting to begin. My co-worker Bill Atkinson, watching the live feed from home, sent me a text, “I see you all styling … on the front row.” That cracked me up! He must have caught me pulling my long hair forward on both sides…
