There has perhaps never been a more emblematic dive to the hardwood of the Siegel Center than Zeb Jackson’s display of hustle a few minutes into VCU’s 90-70 victory over William & Mary on Sunday.
Prior to tip-off of a contest in which the black and gold retired the No. 2 jersey of HAVOC-era legend Briante Weber, Jackson — who wears Weber’s hallowed number — told teammates he planned to honor the tenacious defender with at least a couple dives on the floor.
So when Jackson threw his body toward a loose ball a couple minutes after Weber’s jersey was raised to the rafters alongside VCU’s 2011 Final Four banner, the crowd — and Weber — reacted accordingly…
