Wildlife Center of Virginia celebrates bear cubs’ first birthdays

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Make sure to tune in this Friday as the Wildlife Center of Virginia is set to host a virtual event to celebrate a group of black bear cubs as they turn one.

According to the center, at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 17, there will be a livestreamed virtual event where the cubs will be celebrated and given “special birthday treats.”

The livestream will be available to view on the center’s website as well as its Facebook page, providing viewers with an inside look at the cubs. Those who tune in will also receive information about their care and rehabilitation from the outreach team.

There are seven black bear cubs, all born right here in Virginia. They eventually arrived at the center in the spring of 2024. From then until now, the center’s veterinary and rehabilitation teams have been providing expert care to the cubs.

There are currently plans for the cubs to be released back to their natural habitats in the spring of this year, imitating the timeline that they would normally detach from their mothers if they were raised in the wild…
