The incident occurred as he attempted to climb down the 30-foot-tall metal structure with a small group of individuals suspected of crossing into the U.S. unlawfully, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
The man fell as Border Patrol agents approached the area. While conscious and moaning in pain immediately after the fall, he became unresponsive before emergency medical services (EMS) arrived. EMS personnel declared him deceased at 6:25 a.m.
