Vista welcomes new sheriff’s captain

VISTA — Lt. John Malan of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office has been selected as the new sheriff’s captain for the Vista Station, city officials announced Tuesday.

Malan replaces former Vista Sheriff’s Captain John Boyce, who was promoted to another role in the Sheriff’s Office, according to the city.

Malan has served with the Sheriff’s Office since 2012, holding positions as deputy sheriff, sergeant and lieutenant, with his most recent role as lieutenant at the Ramona Substation. From 2018 to 2020, he also served as the Vista Station Patrol Supervisor…
