‘Worked exactly as designed’: Tanker car not to blame in Whitewater Township chemical leak

WHITEWATER TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) – The investigation into the recent rail disaster west of Cincinnati, which led to a mass evacuation, has revealed that the release of styrene gas from a tanker car wasn’t due to a faulty tanker car.

Mike Miller, a representative from the Central Railroad of Indiana, stated that the tanker car functioned as designed.

“The car worked exactly as it was designed. It was supposed to vent, as opposed to explode. And that’s exactly what happened. So, we believe the car was in good condition and had been tested,” Miller said…
