Scholarships from Orlando nonprofit help Hispanic, Latino students through college and beyond

ORLANDO, Fla. — Vimalys Rivera enrolled at the University of Central Florida after graduating from Gateway High School in Osceola County, but she’s never taken her education for granted.

“My family didn’t have a lot of money growing up, so we didn’t even know if college was going to be a for sure thing,” Rivera said.

But a scholarship from the Hispanic Heritage Scholarship Fund (HHSF) helped make Rivera’s dreams of a college degree a reality. She’s set to graduate from UCF with a degree in computer science and plans to become a software engineer…
