How did the Davenport double homicide case develop ahead of the trial starting this week?

Authorities found the bodies of Brian L. Goodwin and Amy M. Smith, both 44, early on Jan. 16, 2024, in Goodwin’s home at 5210 N. Division St.

Goodwin and Smith’s deaths were determined to be homicides and, in the weeks after their deaths, officials charged three people in relation to the killings.

Adriana Blake, 27, and Devon Braet, 35, both face counts of first-degree murder as well as other charges.

Blake and Braet’s murder trial is expected to begin Monday.

The charges against Melisa Marie Weber, 50, include second-degree arson and abuse of a corpse. Her case remained pending as of Friday.

Bodies discovered and the initial arrest

Davenport firefighters discovered the bodies of Goodwin and Smith when they responded to a fire at the Division Street address. Authorities said at the time they considered the fire suspicious.
