Ole Miss Volleyball sweeps South Carolina in Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Behind some timely blocking and a diverse offensive gameplan, the Ole Miss volleyball program earned a key SEC win, defeating South Carolina, 3-0 on Friday night at the Carolina Volleyball Center.

The Rebels (13-5, 3-3 SEC) were led by a balanced attack, with four players notching eight or more kills. Shayla Meyer and Nia Washington tallied 10 kills each, while Meyer and Julia Dyess (nine kills) recorded eight digs apiece to lead their unit over the Gamecocks (10-6, 1-4 SEC). Sasha Ratliff also set a new season-high with seven blocks.

After an even start, the Rebels began to assert their will, with some efficient play and a balanced attack. Meyer led the way with four kills, while the Rebels would earn multiple slight advantages throughout the set without letting the Gamecocks get closer. The set was ultimately clinched behind a terrific run of serve from Sommer Daniel, who guided Ole Miss from a 16-15 lead to a 20-15 advantage, tallying a service ace in the sequence.
