Texas A&M coach Mike Elko has been coy this week regarding the Aggies’ plan at quarterback after he benched starter Conner Weigman in favor of Marcel Reed in the Week 9 win over LSU. Elko hasn’t announced a starter for Saturday night’s matchup with South Carolina, but it wouldn’t matter if he did, according to Gamecocks defensive coordinator Clayton White.
“The announcement don’t need to be made,” White said this week. “We have an idea that we are definitely going to see both quarterbacks. Our guys understand rushing quarterbacks. We have played very mobile guys the past couple of weeks. We talk about it a lot. We go against it every single day with LaNorris Sellers and Robby Ashford. We understand how to rush those guys, and we have to make sure we do that in the games.”
Weigman started the first two games of the season for the Aggies before suffering a sprained AC joint in a Week 2 win over McNeese. He returned for the Tigers’ Week 6 win over a ranked Missouri squad, completing 18-of-22 passes for 276 yards and rushing five times for 33 yards.
