South Decatur wins first sectional since 1998

GREENSBURG — South Decatur pulled out a five-set thriller in the semifinals, then neeeded four sets in the final to capture its first volleyball sectional title since 1998 Saturday at North Decatur.

The Cougars (27-4) beat Morristown 25-15, 26-28, 25-13, 25-11 in the final. Makayla Somers led South Decatur with 32 assists and three aces, while Taylor Somers pounded nine kills, Aniston Bostic had five blocks, Zsophia Sharp notched 19 digs and Elizabeth Bennett served three aces.

Also for the Cougars, Sharp recorded eight kills and two assists, and Bostic added seven kills. Makayla Somers had four blocks and two aces, Bennett tallied two blocks and 14 digs, Paige McQueen notched 18 digs, Lydia Witkemper had 16 digs and Taylor Somers added two blocks and two aces…
