Charlotte Man Sentenced to Seven Years for AR-15 Brandishing Incident at Waffle House

A Charlotte man, after a federal court decision, will serve a seven-year sentence for wielding an AR-15 rifle during the stickup of a Waffle House. This announcement follows an investigation spearheaded by the FBI and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), as U.S. Attorney Russ Ferguson released the details. Jermond Santa Lowery, Jr., the 29-year-old perpetrator from Charlotte, faced judgment today, according to a U.S. Attorney’s Office statement.

Lowery’s crime, dated back to Halloween of 2023, unfolded when he burst into the local eatery, threatening the startled staff with military-style hardware. Court records note that he herded the employees, brandishing the firearm and demanding cash, before ripping the cash register off the eatery’s counter. In the mix-up fled Lowery only to be apprehended the following day by CMPD officers.

On September 26, 2024, Lowery conceded to his charges by entering a guilty plea for the count of brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. The admission secured his current incarceration as he awaits the Federal Bureau of Prisons to designate his permanent residence for the years to come.
