One Dead and Another Injured in South Charlotte House Fire as Investigation Begins into Cause

A tragic incident unfolded in south Charlotte when a fire broke out in a home on Friday evening, leaving one person dead and another seriously injured. The blaze occurred around 7 p.m. on Montford Drive, according to a report from WBTV. The Charlotte Fire Department swiftly responded, and officials reported that the fire was brought under control by approximately 8 p.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke and an active fire in the 1000 block of Montford Drive. A team of 30 Charlotte firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, which they achieved in just under an hour. However, “On behalf of Charlotte Fire, I extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victim lost in this tragic incident,” Charlotte Fire Chief Reginald Johnson said, according to an interview with WCCB Charlotte. The remaining occupants in the home at the time of the fire were uninjured.

MEDIC reported that one individual was pronounced deceased at the scene while another was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. The Red Cross is currently rendering assistance to other individuals who resided in the house. The exact cause of the fire remains undetermined but is believed to have originated in the carport area of the residence, as stated by the Charlotte Fire Department.
