A high-speed chase in the Plum Grove area Tuesday night, Dec. 10, ended in tragedy, resulting in the death of an Ace woman and the arrest of a Livingston man. The incident began around 8:34 p.m. when a Liberty County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted a traffic stop on FM 1010 after discovering a license plate on a pickup truck did not match the vehicle.

According to Capt. David Meyers, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, the driver of the truck initially slowed down as if to comply but then turned onto CR 340 and accelerated, attempting to evade the deputy. The pursuit reportedly reached speeds of up to 75 miles per hour as the vehicle turned onto CR 3405.

The chase came to a tragic end when the truck turned down a private driveway, drove through a chained gate, and continued along a muddy road. The driver lost control after hitting a small washout, causing the passenger to be ejected from the vehicle. The truck came to rest on top of the ejected passenger, according to Myers.
