ARKANSAS, USA — The lingering dry weather conditions in our area have led the National Parks Service (NPS) to issue new fire restrictions for the Buffalo National River.
Lighting or maintaining a campfire is now prohibited in areas within the Buffalo National River except for designated campgrounds and established campfire sites. These include:
- Campgrounds with established campfire grates/rings
- Gravel bars in areas that are naturally free of vegetation
Campfires can also be made in gravel areas that are free of vegetation, but officials ask that the size of the fire be reasonable. Visitors are asked to properly extinguish the fire before leaving.
According to NPS, charcoal or gas grills are still allowed in developed campgrounds and day-use picnic areas. Propane or liquid-fueled stoves and lanterns are also permitted in all areas of the park as long as they are monitored and not left unattended.
