GBI Investigates Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Atlanta Following Armed Robbery

At the behest of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, an officer-involved shooting in Atlanta is now under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). The incident, which occurred on Monday, resulted in the death of an armed robbery suspect and injury to a law enforcement officer.

The confrontation began after a Fulton County Sheriff’s deputy, responding to a robbery at a Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, was informed by an employee that the suspect was still nearby. The deputy encountered the individual behind an Easy Rental on the 600 block of Lee Street. It was at this location that the suspect allegedly opened fire on both the deputy and the witness, prompting the officer to take cover and return shots. According to a news release from the GBI, during the escalation, another grim discovery was made: two employees at the Easy Rental had also been shot by the suspect in an attempted robbery.

Both the deputy and the suspect were transported to a hospital following the exchange. The suspect was pronounced dead upon arrival. The officer, wounded in his hand, received treatment for the non-fatal injury.
