Sightings of an unknown animal have been reported across Texas for decades. The creature has been described as having a gorilla-like appearanceācovered in dark hair, sometimes walking upright, and sometimes dropping to all fours in a running gait much like that of a great ape. Because of the gorilla-like appearance and the propensity of sightings in rural, forested areas, many people call these creatures a “wood ape,” although most researchers say that term is synonymous with the more popular term bigfoot or sasquatch. Here are a few of the more notable sightings of a gorilla-like creature and the organization that’s out to prove that the Texas wood ape is real.
Caddo Sighting
In July, 1964, the Fort-Worth Star Telegram published a short article about a strange animal spotted by several residents in the Caddo area of Stephens County. Eyewitnesses described the animal as “looking like a gorilla.” A group of tourists in the area also saw the strange animal and reported it to the local sheriff’s office in Breckenridge. One local stated that he fired a shot at the “mysterious object” but missed. Below is a clipping of the original article.
