Donors come together to save MSCS fall academy

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A day after Memphis Shelby County school leaders discovered they no longer had the federal funds for a Fall Break Learning Academy , local donors have come together to make it happen this year.

The week-long fall break starts on Monday. School Board Member Sable Otey says so many parents and students depend on the program when school is not in session.

“Sometimes, the meals that we provide them are the only ones they get, so right away, I called our community partners. YMCA, the TVA, Carter Malone Group, Cigna. I called a few people,” said Otey. “They got on there quickly to make this happen. I appreciate them and their urgency to make sure we could make this happen for our children.”…
