Texas woman known for ‘Walmart of Drugs’ sentenced

GREGG COUNTY, Texas ( KETK ) — A Longview woman, known for running “Walmart of Drugs” out of her Longview residence, pleaded guilty to distributing fentanyl resulting in death.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office Eastern District of Texas, Rebecca Diane Merkel, 43, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute fentanyl and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Evidence presented in court indicated that Merkel was known to drug users for the “Walmart of Drugs” out of her residence on Williams Street in Longview. Merkel and her codefendants allegedly sold items including meth, pills laced with fentanyl, stolen goods and firearms…
