PAWTUCKET, RI. – The Armed Forces Success Center (AFSC) is excited to host the 2nd Annual Armed Forces Open — a four-wall handball tournament that will draw players from all over the country to raise money for service members and their families. The tournament will take place March 28-30th at the Pawtucket LA Fitness. Community members are welcome to watch the tournament or register to compete.
Started by Santino Alteri, an Active-Duty Navy Lieutenant and CEO of AFSC, the event aims to strengthen relationships among military members, handball players and the local community. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit AFSC’s mission to provide free academic and mental health support to military families through tutoring, writing, coaching and mentorship.
“The Armed Forces Open is a testament to the power of sports to bring people together for a cause that matters,” said Alteri, tournament organizer. Last year, while a doctoral student at Purdue University, Alteri raised over $8,000 and established a Veteran Emergency Fund for military-affiliated students. “I was proud to help students in need—it’s about giving back to those who serve or have served.”…
