Help for home heating costs in Maryland dwindling as state faces budget crunch

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Families in the Hagerstown area are struggling to pay their heating bills as the cold weather sets in.

Financial support for eligible households is dwindling as millions of dollars have been cut from the Maryland state budget.

Many residents lean on the Community Action Council in Hagerstown. Tim Fisher runs the Washington County anti-poverty agency, helping with housing and family nutrition needs and energy assistance too. However, with the program cuts, Fisher said seniors, people with disabilities and others who have relied on the program for so long are going to suffer from the cuts.
