Men’s Golf: Westminster retains Lee Hite Cup

BEDFORD, Pa.–The Westminster College men’s golf program won the Lee Hite Invitational for the fourth-straight year Tuesday afternoon, knocking off Penn State Altoona at the Bedford Springs Old Course 5-2. The annual match play event honors Mr. Hite’s beneficence to both Westminster and Penn State Altoona.

Westminster won the inaugural event 4.5-2.5 in 2021 and earned a 4-3 victory in 2022 before capturing a 5-2 win last September at the Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier.

Westminster victories were secured by graduate student Kai Haseyama (Encinitas, Calif., San Dieguito Academy), seniors Joseph Trudeau (Ann Arbor, Mich., Skyline), Gavin Batdorff (Berlin Center, Ohio, South Range) and Portland Canovali (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny), along with sophomore Tyler Hager (Lehighton, Pa., Palmerton). Trudeau won 4-and-3 against Nicky Riscica, Batdorff won 1-up against Andrew Bruce, Hager won 4-and-2 against Nick Helsley, Haseyama won 3-and-2 against Joey Sabol and Canovali won 3-and-1 against Ethan Ellis…
