POUGHKEEPSIE – Convicted felon Joseph Hoffman, 30, from Dover is going back to prison after a violent domestic attack that occurred in September 2023. The convict is going to prison for six years following a guilty plea to strangulation. The six years in prison also comes with five years of post-release supervision.

In September 2023 Hoffman held a woman hostage in a hotel room for 48 hours while he repeatedly beat and raped her. He made the victim write a note to her child, telling him “goodbye.” Although the victim was in court for sentencing, for emotional reasons, she had the prosecutor, Senior Assistant DA Brittney Kessel read her prepared statement. She described how she was beaten and raped, and choked until she lost consciousness. She described being naked, bloody, and bruised while noticing how the room was “completely covered in blood from him beating me.” The victim, through Kessel, told Dutchess County Court Judge Edward McLoughlin that she will never feel safe again and suffers from daily nightmares and panic attacks.

Following his arrest, Hoffman was in the Dutchess County Jail and proceeded to overdose. After being revived for a few hours, he attacked two corrections officers, biting one and punching the other. That attack resulted in a new indictment, and he entered a guilty plea to assault. He will serve a consecutive term of six years in prison for that charge…
