NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Food services workers from New Haven school protested on Wednesday, claiming that they are underpaid and underappreciated in their roles.

Senate Democrats push for striking worker protections

The union members are protesting the board of education calling for fair wages and respect for the service they provide to New Haven Public School children. They said that they have been playing a vital role but have not received raises that keep up with inflation.

“We’re trying to get a fair contract, they’re kind of dragging their feet right now with negotiations, so we’re trying to get their attention by rallying, and the streets are cold,” Latasha Vereen, food service worker at New Haven Public School said.

Josh Stanley, the chief negotiator, said that they have been trying to get a new contract since April 2024 and still have not gotten one…
