A Fatal Encounter
On February 5, 1997, Richard Aderson, a respected assistant superintendent in the Valley Central school district, became the victim of a chilling act of violence. After a seemingly minor fender-bender near the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge, what began as a routine drive home spiraled into a nightmare. Aderson pulled over with the other driver onto the shoulder of I-84 in Fishkill, where an argument erupted. In a frantic attempt to seek help, Aderson called 911. Moments later, a gunshot rang out, echoing the last moments of his life.
