Davenport Public Works negotiating on new contract

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Davenport Public Works employees continue their negotiations with city officials as their contract is set to expire in June. This week, Teamsters Local 238 were given an initial proposal from the City of Davenport that offers changes to wages for 180 employees.

Zach Peterson, business agent for Teamsters Local 238, said members are prepared to strike if they cannot come to an agreement with the city. In Iowa, it is illegal for public sector employees to strike.

“If our members were to decide to strike, our union is fully prepared to pay all legal fees and fines associated with that strike,” Peterson said. “We hope that we don’t have to do that. Having said that, we’re leaving no options off the table to make sure that we get a fair deal for our members and their families.”…
