Welcome to National Pizza Week! January 12th through the 18th is a week to enjoy your favorite pie from your favorite pizza restaurant! Last year the folks at Iowa Starting Line asked Iowans to name their favorite Iowa-made pizza. They’re doing it again this year, but in case you missed the results from 2024, here are Iowa’s favorite pizzas as voted on by you!
1. Pagliai’s Pizza, Iowa City and Grinnell – According to Iowa Starting Line, Pagliai’s Pizza took home the top spot. According to their website, the pizza spot first opened in 1957 and featured recipes by immigrants from Northern Italy. Many who still visit claim those recipes haven’t changed a bit!
2. Mabe’s Pizza in Decorah – According to your votes, Mabe’s Pizza in Decorah came in second in the Iowa Starting Line pizza poll. The restaurant opened in 1953 but didn’t have pizza on the menu! It became a permanent item in 1968 and the rest is history!
3. Great Plains Sauce and Dough Co. – Coming in at number three in the Iowa Starting Line pizza poll is Great Plains Sauce and Dough Co. located in Ames. The family-owned business got its start in 1979 and their pizza is unmatched in central Iowa.
4. Casey’s – What would a best pizza in Iowa list be without mentioning Casey’s Pizza! They came in at number four according to Iowa Starting Line. It might be quick and easy, but don’t you dare call it gas station pizza!
5. Wig and Pen Pizza Pub – Just as much a staple in Iowa City as Pagliai’s, Wig and Pen rounds out the top five according to Iowa Starting Line. Hit up their Iowa City or Ankeny location for a historically great pizza!
Did your favorite not make the list? Don’t let that happen in 2025! Let Iowa Starting Line know your favorite spot to grab a pizza today!…
