‘They don’t want it.’ Little Miami school board quashes controversial flag policy

Little Miami Local Schools ‘ Board of Education quashed a move that would’ve restricted flags and displays inside classrooms at a special meeting Thursday evening.

In a 3-2 vote, the board determined a controversial proposed policy − which would require teachers to take down posters, flags and other displays that aren’t directly related to their class curriculum − will not move along toward further discussion or implementation. David Wallace and Mary Elmer were the two votes in favor of the policy.

Wallace, the policy’s main supporter, said restricting classroom decorations to those related to curriculum is necessary so that teachers don’t influence students on social and political issues. When Wallace attended a parent night at the start of the school year, he said he “couldn’t tell” what some teachers were teaching based on the displays in their classrooms, and “did not care for that at all.”…
