Gio Urshela has signed with the Atlanta Braves just days after being designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Angels . The Braves are looking to fill the gap left by third baseman Austin Riley, who is out for the rest of the regular season due to a broken hand.
The #Braves today signed INF Gio Urshela to a major league contract and placed INF Austin Riley on the 10-day injured list, backdated to August 19, with a fractured right hand. To make room on the 40-man roster, Atlanta transferred A.J. Minter to the 60-day injured list.

Urshela made the trip to Atlanta on Monday night and finalized a Major League contract the following morning. While Riley’s absence is significant, Urshela is expected to step in and contribute as the Braves aim for a postseason push.
