‘Critical need’ for blood donors ahead of winter storm in north Georgia, nonprofit says

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A nonprofit blood center says there’s a “critical need for donors” ahead of a winter storm approaching metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

Blood Assurance said they’re expecting donor cancellations on Friday and Saturday because of ice and snow. To prevent shortages of blood, plasma and platelets, they’re asking donors to visit one of their locations Wednesday and Thursday.

“Winter weather often leads to canceled blood drives and decreased donor turnout, which can create dangerous shortages,” the nonprofit said in a press release. “We need donors to step up and roll up their sleeves ahead of the storm to help ensure we don’t have a shortfall, as the need for blood never takes a day off.”…
