Lynnfield – Shortly before 6 p.m. on August 13, Trooper Steven Lopez of the Danvers Barracks, was operating his cruiser on Route 1 in Lynnfield when he observed a Mercedes SUV with extremely dark window tint. Trooper Lopez activated his cruiser’s blue lights and stopped the vehicle on Route 1 in the area of Canterbury Road.
Trooper Lopez approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver, Melffrin Perez-Fenandez, 40, of Lawrence. As Perez-Fenandez retrieved the vehicle’s registration, Trooper Lopez observed a substance suspected to be illegal narcotics wrapped in a “corner bag,” a common way to package narcotics for sale or distribution.…
