Cold Front Prompts Severe Threat

MIDWEST – The Storm Prediction Center has issued a MARGINAL (level 1 out of 5) risk for severe thunderstorms on Thursday evening across portions of Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, and western Nebraska and Kansas. The main threat will be a few storms that could produce large hail during the late afternoon and evening hours along the front.

A trough and associated cold front moving through will help trigger the severe weather potential. Thursday afternoon, this system will be pushing through the Plains and will move into lower portions of the Midwest by the evening hours.

These storms will continue along the front overnight Thursday and into Friday. Currently, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a general thunderstorm outlook as storms fizzle out along the boundary Friday morning. This includes spots like Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, lower Michigan, and Ohio.

Flooding rainfall does not look to be a threat along this system, but any rainfall across these areas undergoing drought is always welcome…
