Austin County Deputies graduate from Houston Police SWAT school

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin County Sheriff’s Office has announced the graduation of Deputies John Cano and Cole Dyer from the Houston Police Department Basic SWAT School.

The course provided a comprehensive understanding of SWAT operations, covering topics such as SWAT history, selection and retention, equipment, liability issues, physical fitness and wellness, weapons training, intelligence gathering and mission planning, rapid deployment and rescue, barricaded persons, high-risk warrants, less-than-lethal applications, noise-flash diversionary devices, and chemical agents. The training was described as extremely physical, and the ACSO expressed pride in the deputies’ achievements.

Deputies Cano and Dyer will join the Austin County Regional Special Response Team, with further specialized training and certifications planned. The ACSO also congratulated Weimar Police Department Officer Jason Ellis, who completed the same course…
