Cottonwood, Alabama down to single officer as accusations fly

COTTONWOOD, Ala. (WTVY) -Cottonwood, Alabama’s police department has dwindled to only its chief, and the hours he patrols are shrinking, though the reasons for that are murky.

Chief Tony Money will generally be limited to 40 hours weekly, less than he has typically worked. Though salaried, he receives additional pay for significant hours worked past 40, according to official reports.

Cottonwood Mayor Calvin Van Granger insists any notion that he ordered Money to reduce his work time in a cost-cutting effort is ridiculous. He said Money has been working significant overtime and decided to cut back himself.

“He’s has some health issues,” Granger said. “It was his decision to cut it to 40 hours.”…
