As winter weather rolls in, Georgia nonprofits rally to help those in need

Many of Georgia’s communities have been issued a winter storm watch , and even those that aren’t are experiencing very cold temperatures . Some residents and nonprofit organizations have begun helping those most at risk to these conditions.

Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter in Cartersville shelters about 75 people every night and, in partnership with its street outreach program, is distributing cold weather supplies like blankets, tents, and tarps. They have partnered with Crosspoint City Church to provide a warming shelter through Saturday. Those who wish to donate to their cause can do so at 206 Summit St.

United Way of Central Georgia confirmed that, as of Wednesday, they are under an extended cold weather activation with shelter partners maximizing intake and extending hours to provide the necessary care and protection during this period. These partners include the Brookdale Resource Center , the Hello House at Brookdale , and the Salvation Army Warming Station on Broadway…
