Community Calendar: ‘Year of the Fitz’ kickoff, live music, storytime returns and Spartan Forest Fest

Saturday, Jan. 11

Superior: Commemorators of the 50th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitgerald are holding a kickoff at noon at the Superior Public Library. Have a refreshment and learn how you can support plans for a historical marker recognizing Superior as the ship’s final port of call and how you can help observe a local “Year of the Fitz.” Financial donations will be matched.

Superior: The Duluth Homegrown Musical Festival Homegrown Winter Fiasco brings live music to four Superior establishments throughout the evening. The lineup is: Thor Leseman, 6-6:45, Sugar on the Roof, 7-7:45 and Old Love, 8-8:45 at Superior Tavern; Chasm, 6:30-7:15, Campfire Tranarchists, 7:30-8:15, and Dog Talk, 8:30-9:15 at Tower Ave Tavern; Laurie BoeDee, 7:30-8:15, The Leave Alones, 8:30-9:15, and DJ ADUB, 9:30-10:15 at Havana’s; Mint Vintage, 8-8:45, Dre aka Jamaican, 9-9:45, and Underground ‘til Sundown, 10-10:45 at The Main Club.

Monday, Jan. 13

Solon Springs: A new technology class with Superior Public Library digital navigator Lisa Wesberg is 10-11 a.m. at the Joan Salmen Memorial Library. Electronic devices available for checkout.
