Baltimore, MD – A mix of snow, ice, and freezing rain is expected to hit areas west of the Blue Ridge Mountains, creating hazardous conditions along Interstate 68 Sunday into Monday morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts up to 6 inches of snow in higher elevations, with ice accumulation adding further risks for travelers.

According to the NWS Baltimore/Washington, the snowfall will primarily affect communities like Frostburg, Grantsville, and Cumberland through Monday morning. Keyser’s Ridge could see up to 3 inches of snow, while areas like Flintstone and Hancock are expected to receive lighter amounts ranging from a dusting to 2 inches. Ice accumulations of 0.1 to 0.4 inches are also possible, particularly in higher terrain.

Motorists traveling on I-68 are urged to use caution as roadways may become slippery, especially during early morning and late evening hours. Wind gusts up to 18 mph on Monday may cause blowing snow, reducing visibility further. If you must travel, the Maryland Department of Transportation recommends carrying an emergency kit and allowing extra time to reach your destination safely…
