An artisan baker is taking her near 20 years of experience, setting up shop and bringing a different kind of bakery to her hometown in a few weeks.
Kathryn Overton, owner of the Back Roads Bread Company, has been operating out of her oven at home for about a year while looking for a new place to call home. When she found the right spot in Brentwood, she knew it was time to open her own business.
“I kind of had my sights set on downtown because that’s where all the revitalization is at,” Overton said. “I do pop-ups there during the weekends and sometimes during the week. There’s a lot of foot traffic for the pop-ups. I looked at a couple spaces down there and looked at the workload that was going to have to go into those spaces. Then a space here popped up, and it just seemed like a happy accident. I was skeptical at first because I really wanted to be downtown. The rent was better here. There’s a lot more consistent foot traffic. It’s a lot more stabilized of a business center. There’s so many businesses in walking distance. This seemed like a convenient place for people to come.”…
