As the year comes to an end, I would like to take this time to highlight the ongoing issue of homelessness amongst veterans in Oklahoma and thank the many organizations and people working to provide them with much needed care and resources.
I am a military spouse, so this issue is very dear to me. Homelessness among veterans is a multi-faceted issue driven by economic, mental health and social challenges. Significant strides at both the state and local level have been made to address this issue.
However, the issue remains dire. According to the most recent data (2022) from the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), about 273 veterans in Oklahoma are homeless, with thousands more living in poor-quality homes…
