STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Is the next American pop icon currently walking through the halls of a Staten Island high school?
That’s what they tried to find out Thursday, as Staten Island Technical High School hosted the District 31 “American Idol” Live Audition, and 51 students from 10 Staten Island schools performed for industry veterans with hopes of a possible fast-track onto the hit TV show.
Emerging Talent Brands Corp., the nonprofit headed by husband-and-wife tandem Joey Martino and Laura Monaco-Martino, has a track record of scouting and developing talent for shows like “American Idol,” including season 18 contestant Julia Gargano, who previously interned at the studio.
“They trust our opinion in this process and if we find someone that’s close enough, but needs some work, they trust us to work with them and get them to that level, potentially for the following year.”…
