Lighting up the park, Galena Christmas tradition draws a crowd

GALENA — It was a festive night at Galena Town Park, Saturday. When the sun sank low, lights were plugged in, and the many decorations in the park were evident for all to enjoy. The town held their annual Christmas event, Light up the Park, sponsored by Molly’s and Dixon Valve, drawing nearly 100 people this year.

Through the archway made of colorful gifts with ribbons creatively put together, attendees were treated to a Santa wearing floaties, next to a boat of Christmas lights, some reindeer, a gingerbread man, multiple light displays, a fire to stave off that winter chill, and plenty of family activities.

In addition to lighting up a 20-foot Christmas tree, Council member Sarah Merrell noted they had Santa escorted by the Galena Volunteer Fire Department, children’s coloring activities and a few vendors, all while the Galena Lions Club offered hot chocolate and cookies…
