Cuomo Bridge builder sues Thruway Authority for breaching contract, demands more than $1B

The consortium that built the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge sued the New York State Thruway Authority Friday, the latest salvo in a three-year legal battle over nearly $1 billion in disputed costs.

The breach of contract lawsuit filed in the state Court of Claims by Tappan Zee Constructors (TZC) comes two months after the Thruway Authority filed its own lawsuit claiming dozens of anchor pipes used to connect cables on the $4 billion twin span were not up to the contract’s standards.

“We remain focused on reaching a fair and swift resolution with NYSTA, rather than continuing to draw out the claims process, which places an untenable cost burden on our companies and, ultimately, New York taxpayers,” Tappan Zee Constructors said in a statement. “The longer NYSTA chooses to delay this process, the higher the costs in interest and legal fees will be for New York’s taxpayers.”…
