Cooling centers opening in Northeast Ohio due to high heat

CLEVELAND (WJW) – Several local communities are opening up cooling centers as extreme heat returns to Northeast Ohio this week.

A Heat Advisory has been issued for many local counties from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday. An Air Quality Alert is also in effect at midnight through Tuesday night. Find the latest weather alerts here.

Local schools closed Tuesday for extreme heat

Cleveland

Cleveland’s Department of Public Works is extending hours at six recreation centers on Tuesday so residents can cool off during the hot temperatures.

The following locations will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.:

  • Zelma George Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center: 3155 Martin L. King Blvd.
  • Collinwood Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center: 16300 Lakeshore Blvd.
  • Gunning Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center: 16700 Puritas Ave.
  • Kovacic Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center: 6250 St. Clair Ave.
  • Michael Zone Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center: 6301 Lorain Ave.
  • Frederick Douglass Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center: 15401 Miles Ave.
