Lincoln Park to honor local rockers MC5

Lincoln Park is hosting a celebration for the rock band MC5’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. The event will be from 2-9 p.m. on Oct. 12 at Memorial Park (3240 Ferris Ave. One block east of Fort Street) in Lincoln Park.

The MC5 began as a teen-aged garage band in the city of Lincoln Park in 1965 and developed a fearsome reputation by rocking downriver basement parties, drive-ins, and social halls. After meeting manager John Sinclair, they graduated to larger venues like The Grande Ballroom in Detroit and eventually to renowned international venues like Wembley Stadium in London, England. They reached a pinnacle of press exposure by landing on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine in early 1969. During their initial run as a band, the MC5 released several classic albums including their legendary debut album “Kick Out the Jams.” The group disbanded in 1972.

In April of 2024, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio announced that the MC5 would be included in their October 2024 induction class as a recipient of their Award of Musical Excellence…
