WASHINGTON, D.C. – Alex Karaban led all scorers with 19 points to power the No. 9 UConn men’s basketball team (13-4, 5-1 BIG EAST) to a 68-60 victory at Georgetown (12-4, 3-2 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon at Capital One Arena. The Huskies used an explosive start to the second half to go up as many as 23 in their ninth-straight victory over the Hoyas.
Karaban finished with 19 points, six rebounds, four assists, two blocked shots and a steal while playing all 40 minutes for the Huskies to bounce back from a tough setback on Wednesday night. Solo Ball added 15 for the Huskies and knocked down a trio of 3-pointers while playing less than an hour from his native Leesburg, Va, and fellow DMV-native Jayden Ross also had a strong homecoming less than 40 miles from Bristow, Va. with seven points, two rebounds an assist and a block off the bench.
The Huskies led by only four at the half but burst out of the gates of the half with a 17-2 run, forcing the Hoyas to burn a pair of timeouts in the first 5:30 of the period and never looking back. Samson Johnson had a strong day for Connecticut with nine points, a season-high five rebounds and a team-best +12 in 27 minutes, while Hassan Diarra and Aidan Mahaney each had six and combined for five assists.
