Two Springfield teenagers arrested after loaded firearms seized

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Two Springfield teenagers were arrested during a police investigation over several weeks of a suspect with an illegal firearm.

The Springfield Police Department said that the Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) received information that a 13-year-old boy who had an active arrest warrant had an illegal firearm on Thursday afternoon. Detectives began surveillance in the area of Lombard Street and saw the suspect with two other people on the 600 block of Main Street.

As detectives watched, they observed a boy, later identified as a 14-year-old, allegedly pulled a firearm out of his jacket pocket. The three then walked into a parking lot on the 600 block of Main Street when detectives attempted to stop them. The 13-year-old suspect ran from police and allegedly threw a gun over a fence before he stopped. Police recovered the firearm on Niagara Street and arrested the suspect.
