Why Seahawks’ opening game vs. Bo Nix’s Broncos will be a first in franchise history

Unsurprisingly, the Denver Broncos have named first-round rookie quarterback Bo Nix as their opening day starter. This means that Nix, who started his collegiate career at Auburn before rising to prominence at Oregon, will be making his NFL regular season debut at Lumen Field against the Seattle Seahawks. Considering Nix’s competition was Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson, he was always favored to win the starting job.

It’s a bit of history for the Broncos, who’ve not started a rookie quarterback since some fella named John Elway back in 1983. Elway went 1/8 for 14 yards and an interception and was benched for Steve DeBerg, as Denver won 14-10 over the Pittsburgh Steelers despite literally a single net yard passing.
