CLEVELAND (WJW) – The FOX 8 I-Team has learned Cleveland police are conducting an internal investigation into claims a supervisor offered reward money to officers for arrests of suspects in a robbery.
Officers tell the I-Team that kind of incentive is considered inappropriate as it could lead to a citizen facing charges without enough evidence. That is, if an investigator rushes to arrest and charge someone to collect the reward money.

Sgt. Freddy Diaz wrote, “This week, the Division of Police Internal Affairs Unit received an allegation of misconduct related to an email sent in April 2024 by a Fourth District Supervisor. The email concerns statements made by the Commander regarding a reward for the arrest of suspects involved in a robbery. The Division of Police takes all allegations of misconduct seriously, and this matter is being thoroughly investigated.”…
