City of Augusta giving Tuesday update on Helene recovery efforts

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – The City of Augusta held a Tuesday press conference to update the public on the latest developments in the recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene.

Mayor Garnett Johnson opened by saying the recovery efforts are improving, minute by minute. The water filtration plant continues to improve, and they’re working to restore service to West Augusta and everybody else, hopefully by tonight. If you have questions about your current water pressure, you’re asked to call 311.

“The system is pressuring up at a pretty significant rate, so we are hoping either this afternoon or tomorrow afternoon, I expect, and Director Bynes is not here, but I would expect based on the feedback I’m getting we’ll have most of the water restored. Most, not one hundred percent.”

The Mayor stated that the geyser seen from Riverwatch Parkway is the result of a tree breaking the air valve on a tank. It’s not a major concern, they state that it’s more important to push water out than to make that repair, and that the amount of water is not a concern…
